A Landscape of Rugged, Dramatic Rocky Terrain

Despite its name, Tojinzushiro is not a "shiro" (castle).
The name is believed to originate from "tsushiro," an old island dialect word meaning a gathering place for people and fish.
Today, it is a scenic area known for its rugged and dramatic landscape of volcanic rock, said to be the remains of an ancient crater.
This area is part of a popular hiking trail where you can enjoy the island's raw nature.
The trail leads to Sasakiyama, which at 109 meters is the highest peak on Shikinejima, offering stunning views of the neighboring Kozushima Island across the sea.
* The terrain can be uneven, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Please also be cautious of strong winds.
