Encounter a Giant, Ancient Inumaki Tree

Toyoji Temple is the only temple on Shikinejima, offering a serene spot to connect with the island's history and culture.
While not large, it is a cherished place of faith for the local community, perfect for a moment of quiet reflection during your travels.
The temple's main highlight stands within its grounds: a grand, 900-year-old Inumaki (Buddhist pine) tree, designated as a Natural Monument by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Its sheer presence is awe-inspiring.
At the base of this ancient giant grows a sacred Nagi tree, believed to bring good fortune in relationships and ward off misfortune.
Visitors are welcome to take a Nagi leaf as a personal good-luck charm.
