Wishing to preserve the connection with Mr. Takashi Yanase in a tangible form for future generations, the Gomen-machi shopping street, where he walked during his boyhood, was renamed in 2009.
With Mr. Yanase's support, a total of seven stone statues, including Anpanman and Baikinkinman, were installed to watch over the shopping street.
You'll also find signboards featuring columns written by Mr. Yanase about "Gomen-machi" and shutter art depicting his characters in various places. Be sure to look for them!
