A starry sky so close you could reach out and touch it

Tengu Plateau, part of the Shikoku Karst, is located along the border of Kōchi and Ehime Prefectures. Spanning an altitude of about 1,400 meters, it is one of Japan’s three major karst landscapes, known for its breathtaking limestone terrain.
Designated a National Natural Monument, its unique scenery continues to captivate all who visit.
From this highland elevation, the panoramic views are truly spectacular—lush green meadows dotted with white limestone rocks, an endless blue sky, and the distant silhouettes of the Shikoku mountain range all come together to offer a 360-degree vista.
Depending on the season, you might also see cattle leisurely grazing on the grasslands, adding to the area’s peaceful charm.
Each season brings a different kind of beauty: fresh greenery in spring, cool mountain breezes in summer, brilliant autumn foliage, and serene snow-covered landscapes in winter. This ever-changing natural scenery is one of the plateau’s most appealing features.
Autumn, in particular, is stunning—the vivid contrast between the fiery red and gold leaves and the karst formations draws many visitors each year.
The area is also perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking, trekking, and cycling. At night, a sky filled with stars stretches above, and if you're lucky, you may catch a sea of clouds in the early morning hours.
A scenic driving route known as the “Sky Road” runs along the ridge, allowing you to enjoy these beautiful views even from your car.
We also recommend Hoshi Furu Village TENGU (“The Starry Village TENGU”), a lodging facility where you can gaze up at the sky from your room or enjoy stargazing even on rainy days in their on-site planetarium.
