Can't sleep once per 60 days? Inheriting culture differently

Awano is the only district in the city where "Koshin-ko," a religious practice that involves staying awake every 60 days, has continued on from the early Edo period to modern times.
All-night Koshin-ko ceremonies do not take place anymore nowadays, but the tradition of building Koshin pagodas has been passed on and preserved by this religious group.
The oldest Koshin pagoda here was constructed in 1699. From 1815 onward, these pagodas have been built on a strict regular basis every five years (except 1845 and 1850) up to the present.
