Encounters with fish you have never seen before

1,500 freshwater fish spanning 100 species are exhibited at Ideyama Freshwater Aquarium.
Visitors can encounter rare freshwater fish from around the world, including axolotls (Mexican salamanders), which are very popular among all generations, the Japanese giant salamander, which is designated as a special natural treasure, as well as alligator gar, Asian arowana, redtail catfish, and other fish.
As the aquarium building is made entirely of wood, visitors can relax and admire the fish while enjoying the fragrance of wood.
There are also many hands-on events for children to enjoy, such as a doctor fish experience, an aquarium experience (making a mini bottle aquarium), and feeding the carp that live in the adjacent Ideyama Pond.
