A sacred place nestled in the foothills of the Kirishima mountains

Kirishima Mine Jinja Shrine is a sacred place where Ninigi-no-Mikoto, who appears in the tenson kōrin myth (the descent of Ninigi-no-Mikoto from heaven), is said to have first descended, and has been a place of worship for people since ancient times. Located in the foothills of the Kirishima mountains and surrounded by rich nature, visitors can relax and experience the depth of ancient faith in the shrine grounds.

This shrine used to be one of the six shrines known as the Kirishima Rokusha Gongen, and had five other shrines in the vicinity. One of these shrines was Hinamori Jinja Shrine, and the two shrines shared deep connections.

When Shinto and Buddhism were separated in the Meiji era, Hinamori Jinja Shrine was merged with Kirishima Mine Jinja Shrine, becoming the modern day Kirishima Mine Jinja Shrine,
Therefore, Kirishima Mine Jinja Sjrine is not only a sacred place linked to the tenson kōrin myth, but also an important shrine that carries on the history of the Kirishima Rokusha Gongen shrines.
